Ambassador Dr. Mwaba P. Kasese Bota:

A Distinguished Leader in Global Health and Diplomacy

Ambassador Dr. Mwaba P. Kasese Bota is a Zambian diplomat, medical doctor, and entrepreneur whose career bridges clinical medicine, high-level diplomacy, and transformative global advocacy.

As Zambia’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York (2012-2017), she was a central figure in shaping international policy. She served as Vice President of the UN General Assembly and played a pivotal role in negotiating the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, representing both Southern Africa and the coalition of Land-Locked Developing Countries.

Her legacy includes championing landmark resolutions, notably as co-chair of the first-ever UN Resolution on Ending Child, Early, and Forced Marriages. A recognized expert in public health, she seamlessly blended her medical background with diplomatic leadership, having previously served as a senior HIV advisor for both USAID and UNICEF.

Dr. Bota’s ongoing commitment to leadership is evidenced by her fellowships as a Harvard Advanced Leadership Fellow (2020) and Senior Advanced Fellow (2021).
